MUSEUM EDUCATION
At CRYSTAL BRIDGES MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART
Associate Museum Educator | Bentonville, AR June 2019 – Dec 2021
The Guide Program at Crystal Bridges encompassed approximately 80 guides (docents) in the subject areas of art, architecture, sculpture, and nature. Volunteer guides deliver tours daily for the walk-in public, special groups and other public programs. My role as an Associate Educator for the Guide Program, includes but is not limited to below responsibilities:
- Developing an educational training plan for selected projects by determining topics for trainings, contracting guest speakers, collaborating with the guide program and curatorial staff, and facilitating trainings to enhance the continued education of the guides.
- Research and write educational content regrading museum’s collection to align with trainings and tours; also includes supervising and mentoring interns (University of Arkansas students) in writing content documents, sharing resources and advising them on suggested edits for their growth as researchers.
- Prepare tour curriculum, themes and routes to benefit the reach of the program across a diverse demographic. Planning programs by being mindful of being inclusive of all and making sure that they ADA compliant.
- Engage with museum audience and support the community engagement team as required, to maximize outreach efforts.
- Maintain the program’s online learning management system (Power Learning) to ensure that content and resources are available to the volunteer guides and others from the educational department.
- Perform a variety of administrative services, which include but not limit to - Monitor volunteer software (Samaritan) and communicate with volunteer services to ensure all tours are loaded and filled. Maintain information systems including EMS, TSM and Outlook to make sure that all tours, trainings, and programs are entered appropriately. Scheduling and program coordination. Recording tour attendance and analyze it for development of the program.
- Budget planning to support program’s strategic growth and requirements.
- Supervise docents and assign them for museum staff requests around tours and community engagement.
- Key responsibilities adapted due COVID-19 impact: Planed and successfully transitioned from all in person activities to virtual/online presence (includes both tours and trainings). Providing technical support to most guides in order to move all Guide Program activities online. Creating engagement activities for guides, other museum volunteers and public to be connected with the museum and art, from the safety of their home. Research and write educational content regarding the museum’s collection to align with trainings and tours; also includes supervising and mentoring interns (the University of Arkansas students) in writing content documents, sharing resources, and advising them on suggested edits for their growth as researchers.
